Stacey Simms once proclaimed herself the "worst diabetes mom" is parenting a child with Type-1 Diabetes and building a community of awareness.Parenting a Child with Type-1 DiabetesParenting brings a certain amount of unsolicited advice. We never seem to be doing it good enough. Someone will always feel he or she has a better way, and you must hear about it. Add to that the challenge of parenting a child with type-1 diabetes, and you an extra layer of judgment coming in the form of advice. There may be a pressure of needing to be the perfect parent. We are all human. Perfection is not an option, especially when it comes to parenting a child with Type-1 diabetes. Modern technology loves to show us the highlight reels of someone's life, a life we do not have ourselves. It's easy to feel like a failure. Long-time podcast host, speaker, and author, Stacey Simms, shares with us how mistakes became her superpower. These lessons have been compiled into her book, The World's Worst Diabetes Mom.Who is Stacey SimmsAuthor, podcaster, and parent, Stacey Simms applied her experience from a career in broadcasting to build a community of parents and experts dealing with type-1 diabetes. Just before her son turned two-years-old in 2006, Stacey’s son was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes (T1D). As the family of four settled into their new way of life, Stacey began doing what she does best, writing about her experience. Since the beginning, her diabetes philosophy has been: not perfect, but safe and happy. That mantra was fine until someone on Facebook told her she was an awful parent. What is Diabetes Connections?Diabetes Connections is the T1D news show you’ve been waiting for! Long-time broadcaster, blogger, and diabetes mom Stacey Simms interviews prominent advocates, authors, and speakers. Stacey asks hard questions of healthcare companies and tech developers and brings on “everyday” people living with type 1 diabetes. Great for parents of T1D kids, adults with type 1, and anyone who loves a person with diabetes.Go to BeyondTheRut.com/capsho for your free 14-day trial and see for yourself. Improv coach and credentialed minister, Dave Ebert, discusses the benefits of improv in his life and as a ministry to others. See the full show notes at BeyondTheRut.com/250Improv and Mental Health“Laughter is the tangible evidence of hope.” - Michael Junior, Christian comedianImprovisation is the form of comedy where you make up your lines on the fly. Having done this a few times through corporate training events, I can say with confidence there is a sense of liberation when it comes to embracing improv. It forces you to get out of your comfort zone and connect with both yourself and others. The benefits of improv carry over into mental health. Studies show there is a significant improvement in one’s sense of connection and well-being. Social anxiety disorder, for example, has a prevalence in the United States around 12%, and improvisation has shown that improv and mental health are a great combination in reducing the effects of social anxiety disorder according to the Journal of Creativity and Mental Health. The benefits of improv come from its elements of connection in group cohesiveness, play, exposure, and within the safety net of humor. Humor is known for increasing certain endorphins in our brains to make us feel happier as well.Improv coach, minister, podcaster, and former professional wrestler, Dave Ebert, will take us through the concepts of improv therapy for his life as well as the impact it has on others today through his platform Gifts4Glory and his improv troop known as Well Versed Comedy.About Dave EbertDave is the founder of Gifts for Glory Ministries, as well as the founder of both Well Versed Comedy and PureFest. Dave moved to Chicago to pursue a life and career in ministry to use his gifts for God's glory. Whether it be making people laugh during an improv show, moving the audience with a dramatic role, preaching the Word of God from the pulpit, or inspiring a crowd from the podium, Dave is right at home in front of a crowd. His testimony about how God delivered him from depression and suicidal ideations through the benefits of improv has helped many people find healing and hope for the last 8 years.Dave and his wife, Bobbie, have been married since 2015 and reside in the southwest Chicago suburbs with their three cats. Michael Diettrich-Chastain, executive coach and founder of Arc Integrated, discusses 3 hacks to help you master change at work drawing from his experience and knowledge in psychotherapy.Your Response to ChangeChange is constant, and change can be traumatic for people.
